	When "new" must look "old" too! When Harry and Doris Meicklejohn decided to add a highly visible screen porch to their Longmeadow Dutch colonial, existing design elements needed to be carefully incorporated. The unique soffit and fascia design, wood shingle roof, and series of arches throughout the exterior would need to be included in the new porch for it to blend perfectly with the existing structure If there's one thing that excites the Barron & Jacobs team, it is the challenge of duplicating existing architecture. The screen porch was added to the gable end of the house, with French doors placed on either side of the existing living room fireplace to allow full access to the new addition. Port Oxford cedar was used on the finished floor, while Douglas fir rafters and post support the cathedral ceiling. the interior ceiling is finished in western red tongue and groove cedar planking. When completed the exterior and interior design combined to subtlety add an impressive feel to the entire house. As much as Harry and Doris admire the craftsmanship of their porch room, their real joy comes from the opportunities it provides for gatherings of friends and family. "It is an enjoyable and relaxing space" Harry says.
