A replica that "truly fits"
Having restored their 200-year-old home, our client had definite opinions on how to convert a 1980's in-law apartment into a 3-stall carriage house.
Their preferences included wood-raised arched paneled doors, shiplap knotty pine siding, barn sashes with historically correct True-Divided Light Muntin Bars, concealed lighting, and old-fashioned oil carriage lamps. Their goal was to have renovations accurately complement their historic colonial.
Spending his entire life in the timber industry also gave our client a rare appreciation for native woods. They knew exactly the look they wanted so that the finished product would reflect their vast knowledge.
Our client recalls, "I called Barron & Jacobs because we had used their services previously. I was very impressed. I knew from that project that they had a lot of experience at adapting old structures for new uses."
With goals defined and plans approved, Barron & Jacobs soon completed the detail rich Carriage house. Designed to naturally blend with the surrounding New England scenery, many thoughtful but practical elements were incorporated to convey period accuracy. The carriage doors, for example, operate electrically, but are designed to replicate hand-operated, swinging barn doors -complete with authentic black iron hardware.
